Elgin Public House ROMEO storm

Barnstormers led by the Grumpy Old Vet and accompanied by Where's the Beef, Mr Mop and the Postman rings Twice rang in with a couple of 7s and a 7.2. The highest score was influenced by the pound of excellent fries!

Romeos in Maple Park

Barnstorming Romeos at THE PUB in Maple Park... Retired Old Men Eating Out traveled to the western edge of Kane County and enjoyed the regional economics of the friendly Pub. Burgers were reasonably priced and the hockey puck 1/2 # leaned towards the dry...coming in at the 7.75 on the Barnstorm scale. Judges Where's the Beef John Duewel, Ol' Timer Kevin Combest, Patty Melt Slick Eric Selin, Postman Rings Twice Chad Combest and The Rocket Dave Wittrock were this weeks judges.

ROMEO Barnstormers hit Algonquin

Retired Old Men Eating Out tried the Tap House Grill in Algonquin. $$$$ pricey but a quality Kobe burger was cooked to perfection.

Give the burger a 9.2 but assess .5 point deduction for $$$$. Judges today were WTB John Duewel, Ol' Timer Kevin Combest,

PMS Eric Selin & Chute 5 Randy Lathrop!

8.7 overall score

Barnstormers at River Lee’s

Last week we were pleasantly surprised at this tiny dive bar near the old Haeger’s Pottery. Chargrilled indoors under a heavy duty hood the juicy burgers were a respectable 8.4 around the horn of WTB, OL’ TIMER & PMS.

That’s before a value added bonus of a full point! 3 burgers, chips —-

(no fries), 2 beers and a Diet Coke. $37 before tip!

Barnstormers in Elgin

Dutch Inn West carries on with top of the line burgers with a pair of 9.2 from the WTB (where's the beef) judge John Duewel and the

OT ( old timer) judge Kevin Combest. Patty Melt was solid 8.3 grilled marbled rye with plenty of grilled onions and swiss cheese. Since the 1970s we have depended on the Chuck's Dutch burger to rank up with best ever and these new kids are carrying the torch!

Our Quality inspector KC gives it an 8, solid 8...

John Duewel of "Where's the Beef" fame hands down a 7.75 this being his first event he didn't want to go overboard.

Patty melt Slick says they stuck the landing giving an 8.5! Marble rye was nicely GRILLED not toasted with plenty of grilled onions w/ green peppers and juicy beef.

Barnstorming for Burgers

The Barnstormers are heading out Plank Road in a never ending search for that perfect burger. I'll be sampling the Patty Melt as this will be the first DeKalb County entry. We're finding the McHenry County versions fall short due to their use of toast instead of grilled rye. Kane County leads in the Patty Melt division by grilling their Dark rye bread to a satisfying crunch. John Duewel will be brought in to debut the WHERE'S the BEEF division. Kevin "KC" Combest completes the panel with the TRADITIONAL

division valuing the beef most of all!

Barnstormin' for Burgers

With K.C. Combest & Selin

Parkside Pub Huntley, IL

KC gives the 1/2# Burger a 5 and I'll have to agree. It was on par for any frozen patty.

Appetizer wise I'd give the PLATTER an 8 for it's loaded fries, onion rings, mushrooms, cheese curds &

a couple chicken fingers. Atmosphere was friendly, service superb, and place was very loud.
